my father has been diagnosed with severe anklyosing splondylitis but the doctor merely prescribed painkillers such as ibuproen or paracetamol!!! since doign some research i find that there are many treatments available such as theo nes listed above- but it seems all usa based- how would one get to another doctor to prescribe these if they are available in uk

They are available in the UK. Maybe your doctor does not think it is a good idea at this stage to use them as they are not very pleasant drugs.

It appears that the tnf inhibitors are available in the UK. As for the others, you may want to visit the following links from the UK for further information that may help you;

Also, it may help if you and/or your father speak with your father's doctor regarding these treatments. Doctor's tend to try certain medications first to see if they work. Most doctors are very willing to discuss alternative treatment (if available) at the request of the patient or family. Good communication between a doctor and patient is definitely the way to go.

My partner has rheumatoid arthiritis and is prescribed sulphasalazine,but he was referred to a consultant at hospital by doc, who gave them to him and he now gets them from the doc with a yearly check up with consultant at hosp. If you or your dad aren't happy with the treatment he is getting,asked to be referred to rheumatology dept. And be quite insistant if the doctor is reluctant to refer.

yes, i`m on naproxene myself and have been prescribed it for about six years or so now
