Judaism and Christianity do not see it as a sin. Onan's sin was that he disobeyed God, not that he masturbated.
"Lev 15:16-18 clearly talk about masturbation or solo sex and partner sex and clearly not a sin, only a wash up for ceremonial worship. No sin offering is required at all, only a cleaning up, because when you masturbate or have partner sex in the dark it may get messy and get on you and your clothes. So clean up before ceremonial worship".

Masturbation is a sin and is gravely disordered
Love is a gift of God, nourished by and expressed in the encounter of man and woman. Love is thus a positive force directed towards their growth towards maturity as persons. In the plan of life which represents each person's vocation, love is also a precious source for the self-giving which all men and women are called to make for their own self-realization and happiness. In fact, man is called to love as an incarnate spirit, that is soul and body in the unity of the person. Human love hence embraces the body, and the body also expresses spiritual love. Cf. John Paul II, Apostolic Exhortation, Familiaris Consortio, November 22, 1981, 21; AAS 74 (1982), p. 105. Therefore, sexuality is not something purely biological, rather it concerns the intimate nucleus of the person. The use of sexuality as physical giving has its own truth and reaches its full meaning when it expresses the personal giving of man and woman even unto death. As with the whole of the person's life, love is exposed to the frailty brought about by original sin, a frailty experienced today in many socio-cultural contexts marked by strong negative influences, at times deviant and traumatic. Nevertheless, the Lord's Redemption has made the positive practice of chastity into something that is really possible and a motive for joy, both for those who have the vocation to marriage (before, in the time of preparation, and afterwards, in the course of married life) as well as for those who have the gift of a special calling to the consecrated life.

God intended sex to be between one man and one woman who are married and any derivation from this pattern is sin. This includes premarital relations, masturbation, multiple partners, adultery, and several other sins which I would rather not mention.
However, Christ died for the sins of all mankind and gives eternal life to those who believe in Him freely, without any merit on the part of the believer.
Therefore, yes, it is a sin, but, if we believe in Christ, it, like all other sins, is forgiven in His name.

Question 1) I don't think God considers it a SIN, but I would think that HE thinks we could put our time to better use!
Question 2) of course! Masturbation has to do with orgasm, not intercourse.

Read in the Book of Genesis about a man named Onan. I believe it's in the 38th chapter. That should answer your questions for you. Onan refused to honor the OT method of raising a family in the name of an eldest brother in the event of the brother's death, due to the fact that the brother was slain for the evil he'd committed and Onan took it upon himself that he would pass judgment upon his brother through "pulling out" of his sister-in-law at climax or masturbating either one and "spilling his seed" because the child wouldn't be his (Onan's) and it would bear the name of the family's "black sheep". He thought in so doing that he could kill off that portion of the family's "bad name" and make things right with God in so doing. But, due to the fact that God used such methods in "multiplying and replenishing the Earth" before restructuring the covenant of marriage in the NT, God slew Onan as well, not for his brother's sin, but for his own disobedience of Judaic law and God's law for procreation.

If masterbation becomes an obsesion that distroys your relationship with God and other people it is a sin. Lying and dishonoring your parents are also sinful but that doesn't mean you will go to hell for it. We all sin.
Now get out of the bathroom and find a girl friend.

Technically, yeah. So is everything else worth doing. Moral: "sin" is a lie, so get over your superstitions and try to actually enjoy life for what it is, without stultifying yourself with antiquated voodoo. Time to JO!
