I am going out to AZ to visit my dad for 9 days, and I am not sure what to do about my cat while I'm gone. I was thinking I would just have my bf and my friend come visit him to feed him, spend time with him, etc. One problem is, my cat has been lonely/upset lately because I had to put my other kitty to sleep about a month ago.
My friend offered to just have him stay at her place while I'm gone, but I am not sure if that's a better idea. She has two cats herself. All the cats are fixed, so that's not an issue. My cat stayed at my mom's for a few months while I was in between apartments and did fine with her two cats. My friend and I are planning to do a trial run next week to see how they get along.
Which do you think would be a better? Should he stay alone at my place (with visitors) or stay with my friend (as long as they all seem to get along)?

Just a side note: taking him with me is NOT an option. First of all, I am flying which I am sure would also be very stressful for him. Plus, I know I couldn't get my dad to agree to it.

I think that you kitty should stay at home alone with alot of visitors that can give her love and affection a couple times a day.

Cat's don't like change, they are also very terrortorial animals. Because your other cat is now gone, your kitty may become extra stressed if he is taken out of his home, his comfort zone, his normal environment. I think you should have the visitors come to him! Have your friends or bf stay over and if they can't stay over, make sure they actually spend TIME there...not 15 minutes to feed your cat, pet him for a few minutes and then leave....an hour or 2 a day at least.
Also, cats sleep close to 20 hours a day anyway, so don't take your baby out of his comfort zone, leave him home. :)

You have a few good options here. Ordinarily I think a cat should stay in his home with "visits" from people who will feed, empty litterboxes and give some quality time daily.
In light of your cat's recent loss I think a household with more actvity and a human present most of the time would be better for him.

When we go away we place ours in a nice cattery. Better than left at home by itself and new cats take a long time to get used to each other. Here for 12 bucks a day they get everything they need and have professional people care for them in secure areas with sun porches and enclosed outdoor areas.

If the cats get along, let your friend take care of it unless your boyfriend can temporarily move in while your gone.

if they get along, letting him stay at your friend's home is an excellent idea. that way he won't be lonely or freak out each day because noone is home and he doesn't know if someone will be over to care for him.

This doesn't answer your question, but it may help. When we got our kitten we were worried about it being away from it's siblings, so we got it a small stuff animal. It is his baby & our cat loves it. He has worn the fur off of it, in spots, by licking it.

Either way will be stressful, but I think you should take him to your friends house where he will be socialized all day. I'd rather be with someone than be alone...

You should take it with you on your trip, but if that isn't possible I think it would be more comfortable in his own home.
