friend of same age. Given the intensity of the fire, you can only rescue two people. The other one will definitely not be rescued. Who would you leave behind, and why? And, by the way, you had just learned that your daughter's friend is an Atheist. You mother is wheelchair bound whcih was caused by a recent motor accident when she was fetching your daughter. You and your daughter on the other hand had recently been talking about her plans to finish education and start a successful business.

Honestly I would probably leave my daughters friend, but it has nothing to do with them being Atheist but because I dont love them like I do my mother and daughter. I WOULD however still try to save them.. I wouldnt just assume I can't, probably end up killing myself in the process of trying to save the friend, but my wheelchair bound mother would come first because she NEEDS the help getting out, my daughter needs less but Id go back in to find her, and try to bring her friend too.

Mom and daughter. Why? Mom's in a wheelchair and I'd probably be thinking more of my daughter then her friend. It has nothing to with religion, just how I imagine a mother's frantic mind would be working in a situation like that.

And where is the fire department during all of this!

Oo, Situation Ethics! I've wondered where this question went. Do I acknowledge my existential debt to the woman who gave me birth? Do I preserve the unrealized potential of my daughter? Do I extend myself to reach out in Christian charity to the stranger who, although evil, should not be cut off from the chance to repent later? Remember, if God exists, there has to be a correct answer!

What? Most ppl would make a concerted effort to rescue their own kid and their mother. That's just how people are. But most people would also probably just rescue the first people they find.

Okay. Everyone would be rescued. I would rescue my Mom. And my daughter(who is perfectly healthy since you didn't say anything was wrong with her) would rescue her friend. And this would all be done with God's help.

I would leave behind the atheist|

I am not being cruel in saying this|

The reason is, the crisis of the fire would force her conversion at that moment|

She will die, but at least she will have eternal salvation|

The other two will carry on in life with the plans that God has for them|

With that, it works best for everyone|

I would run out of the house as quickly as possible and pray for God to save the other two Christians..

notice no christian plans to rescue the atheist, in spite of the fact that the other two would presumably go to heaven--way to point out hypocrisy!

This has nothing to do with religion. That being said, the only thing anyone could do would be try to save everyone.

Who ever I could get too before the fire consumed the entire place. Duh!!! In a situation like this you want all people to be rescued and you don't flip a coin to say who is going to not be rescued, but given your scenario, it would be the two that could be reached first.

A no brainer!!! Thanks for two points!!
