I have heard that you can put your dog on your tax return as a dependent, is it true?

Like my accountant says "This is America, you can do what you want, just don't get caught." You can put it on there, but it's a felony, so I wouldn't recommend it.

The only situation where you could deduct the cost of your dog, or the expenses related to owning your dog, is if you have a business related to your dog, such as being a dog breeder.

NO It has been tried. I doubt you have a social security number for your dog. Your dogs vet bills are not deductible either.
