I was a practicing Christian for about 15 years. During that time, God never spoke to me directly as you might be spoken to by a person. I never took this as evidence that he wasn't there, but I did stop practicing the faith for a number of other issues I had with it.

He told me not to give people up for dead when they were still alive, there is always hope because He can heal, He is still the Healer. And if He decides to take someone out of this world, that is when it becomes His business, but before that there is always hope.
(when my Daughter almost died, newborn who needed an operation and i was stressed and at my wits end of faith and hope.)
Was a dream, i saw Jesus on His throne, very beautiful smile He has, the rays of light were so bright around Him that it would have blinded someone if they were sunlight. btw

Endless times... through His Word, directly, while I was reading it (for example, when my baby cousin was between life and death in hospital), through people, who didn't even know it, through books, through movies, and through music.
If you seek Him with your very heart, He will speak to you too. His Word says "Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you" (sorry, I don't remember the reference).
