Put some tasty fish on the side and coax it up there, then while the little critter's tucking in, grab your kitchen knife and, BAM, cut off the end of its tail. It'll never come up there again.

there are a number of ways you can discourage him some of which have already been mentioned:
1). wash your surfaces with lemon juice. Dont use bleach as this, to a cat, is like a cat urine smell and he will want to mark the area with his own urine.
2). put tin foil on the surface, cats hate tin foil or any kind of russeling noisey type paper.
3). spray him with water everytime he jumps up.
4). do not shout at him, or chastise him, cats do not understand this and they will just think you are mean but will not understand why.
5). you have to associate jumping up with something he doesnt like, like water or a load noise etc. if you dont have a water pistol try some peas in a can and shake it instead, or throw keys at the wall.

good luck

Try wiping kitchen tops down with a citrus scented spray cleaner as cats do not like citrus. People put orange/lemons peel in garden to distract cats from coming onto property

nicely I actually have a cat, that once she grew to become into youthful enjoyed to stand up on precise of the cabinets and push up the ceiling boards and decide for an journey. What I did grew to become into lay aluminium foil down (cats do no longer only like the sound or feeling of it) on the counters that she had to bounce onto to get to the precise. After a pair weeks while she found out it grew to become into continuously there, she now no longer tempted it.

I've got a friend who use a bottle water to spray at the cat if they do something that you don't approve. Some people put the cat in the crate to "teach a lesson" but i not like that idea because they might confuse between being punished or put in there to sleep.

There is a 24 hours pet spray that he will not get near, it is not harmful, it gives off a smell to the cat ONLY (you cannot smell it, it doesnt have a scent) and he will not want to go past it. After a while he will be trained not to go over there anymore and you will not have to spray it.

It is called a "pet repelant", its cheap, you can get it at petco or wal-mart,

works great, it keeps the cat off my bed

Cats are supposed to have a dislike for orange peel - try laying some around to see if it turns him off the idea of jumping up.

Alternatively, you could try spraying him with water - some claim that works.

I don't think you should spray Jack with water - what if he associates the water with rain and he then becomes afraid of water??? I've heard the best way is to polish your worktops with a citrus spray. If this doesn't work, I'm sure there is a very simple and kind way to stop him. You could ask your vet.

Good luck and give him a stroke for me.

Keep a roll of newspaper on the kitchen top. As soon as he gets up grab the newspaper and THWACK the counter top close to him. It makes a really loud noise. You never need to actually touch him but he'll soon stop.

I've done this with 3 cats succesfully.

That is the same with my 2 cats..... because one of them loves the fish food, she eats it!!!!! anyway, try putting some foul smelling subsance on the surface so the cat will think another cat is living there....i tell you it does work. But you do have to mind a few puddles though.

Buy a gate that comes halfway up the door. Like you'd use for a baby to keep him out of danger. I don't like the cruel suggestions, the poor cat doesn't know better.
