I just went through a divorce and all the fun financial stuff( no credit card at the moment or bank card ) I will be going on a short trip and I need a room for 1-2 nights and just want to find a place where I can just show up and pay cash if they have a room. Looking for one in Milwaukee just a regular motel nothing fancy. Are there any that still let you do this? Thanks

Just about any will take cash, but many will also require a cash deposit in case of incidental charges (long distance calls, movies, room service, etc.)

Many stores now sell pre-paid VISA or MasterCard debit cards that will work fine for travel.

Many hotels need a credit card just as insurance for payment. I know that some banks can provide pre-paid credit cards. So you fill these cards with money and then use them as you use a regular credit card until the credit runs out. Try them.
You can also arrange with some hotels to transfer the amount due to their account before you arrive. However, you have to contact them by phone or email to make the booking.
