Funny, I was just thinking about that (I have the stuff on hand).

A salad would be great, but I'd be looking for something besides soup and salad. How about some crab cakes or stuffed quahogs? Maybe some corn on the cob would be good. A nice bottle of white wine would help.

PS
A quahog (ko-hog) is a large thick-shelled clam. A stuffed quahog (stuffie) is essentially a a breadcrumb stuffing made with clam broth and diced quahogs or clams, likely along with some seasonings, onion, celery, possibly some ground pork/sausage/spicy sausage, and baked/served in the shell. You make up your stuffing, sandwich it between two shell halves, bake, and serve. It's often served with a pat of butter and/or some hot sauce. Source - southeastern New England native.

I'm assuming you mean the creamy kind. So, I would not serve anything with a cream or cheese sauce, and I wouldn't serve something on the sweet side, because the crab itself is subtly sweet and you don't want to cover that up. Something with a different texture would be good. So - salad is a good choice, but you have to consider what salad dressings you have or can make - again, nothing creamy - I'd probably go with a tangy vinaigrette, so the sourness and crunchiness of the salad will offset the sweetness and creaminess of the crab soup. Another good alternative would be steamed green vegetables of some kind - asparagus, broccoli or brussels sprouts. A light drizzling of butter, and even a little sprinkle of balsamic vinegar or lemon juice will again give you a nice contrast to the soup, and liven up the plain vegetables. Something fried crisply and not sweet could also work, if you just can't stand steamed green vegetables - say, fried okra, or slices of zucchini. Good luck - it sounds delicious!

Turnips? Potato au gratin maybe? I'm thinking starchy and filling but not too strong of a flavor as to not hide the wonderful soup :)

In the superstore, fruits are usually chosen far too soon. Some are rocks, many are wrong. Some of the fruit and vegetables are typical right (zucchini, onions, garlic, lettuce, greens, and a few others) so I'd have to go with vegetables.
