Better yet, why aren't there terms and conditions? Perhaps a disclaimer? "Following the words in this book may guide you in the correct path, but don't come crying to me if your parents are killed in a horrible train wreck".

The bible isn't an instruction manual. It's a glorified history book that teaches the fundamental properties that the Christian religion says everyone on should follow.

B-I-B-L-E, It stands for "Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. As the old American Express commercial said, "Don't leave home without it." Since we are finite creatures and have a place of "beginning" our life's journey, It starts out, "In the beginning God...." God is All That Was, in the beginning. John 1:1 states, "In the beginning "was" the Word." That refers to Jesus, being past tense, in the beginning, He is The Creator and The Eternal Self Existing One. He started the Bible where it would reach man where he was,, lost in sin.

i believe you're making the implications of the term too literal.
"congratulations, if you're reading this, you must be the owner of your own being, you are still alive, you've escaped eternal damnation, and you are now on the fast track to aquiring your salvation..."
more along the lines of a self-help book for those who believe sin is inherent i suppose.
the bible is not self serving.

Because then you would ask why it doesn't start with, "Once upon a time". For those who choose to not believe the Bible will never be right in your eyes
