Well you see. She loves the taste of coffee and drinks a cup or two everyday. She would be a bit uneasy and stressed if she can't have her daily cup of coffee.. but this only leads to other problems at night. She can't sleep until 2-3 in the morning. I think the coffee gave her too much caffeine for her to sleep at night, but she refused to drinking coffee. Any solutions?

It may not be the coffee at all if she only drinks a couple cups in the morning or afternoon. Does she smoke? A lot of people may not realize this but nicotine is a stimulant and can cause chronic insomnia in people who smoke up to six hours before bedtime. Mentally intense activities such as computer work just before bedtime can also cause chronic insomnia. Additionally, pain and depression are the two most common underlying conditions for chronic insomnia. Maybe your "honey" needs to see a doctor.
Also, I wouldn't go behind her back and start switching her coffee to decaf, that may only cause trust issues down the road. If she likes coffee, let her enjoy it (coffee can also offer a lot of health benefits).
Lastly, if she's a real coffee lover, if it's something that gives her joy or relaxes her, I would even suggest that she have an enjoyable cup of coffee shortly before bed. See what happens.
Take care.

A couple cups of coffe in the morning shouldn't affect her ability to sleep at night. It's probably something else causing the insomnia. I have a mocha every morning (usually a double shot), then a single shot frozen coffee drink at lunch. As long as I don't drink coffee after 4 or 5pm I dont' have any problems sleeping.

Other things also contain caffeine. Is she eating chocolate in the evenings? Or taking Excedrin Migraine or another headache medicine that contains caffeine? These could be keeping her up.

I'd say it's best to see a doctor about it.

a lot of people have told you to switch to Decaf ... it has been done before ... but it does need to be done slowly ... and if ... if ... you do try with out her knowledge ... that is up to you ...

But I have this question ... what time of day is she drinking the coffee ... if she is having it early in the morning ... and still cannot sleep until 2 or 3 in the next morning ... maybe it is not the caffeine that is keeping her awake ...

Personally I like coffee also ... and if I drink anything with caffeine in it after 4pm then I do find it hard to fall asleep ... but if I have the coffee in the morning and limit it to one or two cups ... the caffeine is gone by the time I want to go to sleep ...

A suggestion ... there is a natural substance ... that was recommended to me by a pharmacist ... that is like the same substance that your body creates itself ... that will help give you the necessary sleepiness to fall asleep and it is Not addictive ... My Hubby uses it ... and I do not have the bottle to give you the name right now but I can get it for you if you want ...

Good Luck ... and God Bless

Don't try sneaking decaf into her regular coffee behind her back. This is dishonest and you WILL get caught. You will lose her trust. Once you lie to somebody about something relatively trivial like this, it's only logical that they will suspect you of lying about the important things as well. It would be better to be honest about it and suggest to her that she try gradually switching to decaf. But if she wants to drink regular coffee that's her business. Doing things "for people's own good" is rarely helpful, and it is a good way to become an ex-boyfriend. Good luck. I know how it is to deal with close friends and family who have bad habits like drinking and smoking. As addictions go, coffee is probably about the least harmful of them all. You didn't say any different, so I am taking for granted that she is considerate, and does something quiet when she's awake late so that you can get your rest. If not, then you should certainly ask her to try not to wake you up.

If she only drinks a cup or two a day, unless it's at midnight I seriously doubt it's the coffee keeping her awake at night, more likely stress or emotional dissatisfaction in some area, possibly work, family or finances. Otherwise many people who don't drink coffee are insomniacs, Chamomille tea helps or warm milk. I don't recomend drugs, but if lack of sleep is affecting daily life, you probably should see a reputable family doctor.

Since she loves the taste of coffee have her drink decaf. The taste is virtually the same. To help cravings, offer caffeinated coffee in the morning and decaf in the afternoon/evening.

You can be sneaky by making the decaf coffee yourself without her knowing.

A friend of mine was the same way. His wife decided to just see how much caffeine affected him so she switched his coffe. She put the decaf in with the regular a little at a time till it was all decaf. He never could tell the difference. So maybe if you kind of ween her off of it like that she won't know either. It's worth a try.

Buy a can of decaf coffee and little by little, like week by week, substitute that for a small portion of the coffee. Don't go too fast, or she'll get withdrawal symptoms. Good luck!

You will need to ween her off of it a little at a time.

This can be easily be done in a week.

Monday: Her favorite coffee
Tuesday: Half Decaff and Half regular
Wednesday: Very light roast
Thursday: Decaff
Friday: Iced Tea
Saturday: Light Iced Tea
Sunday: Water
