When you speak of my religion, I do.
I associate it with Godly fear. Something one must possess to truly have faith in God.
Godly fear is a wholesome fear, a fear in which one should feel compelled to show love for God and for neighbor. Not in fear of being punished for not doing so, but a fear of displeasing someone you love.
Sorta like the fear a young child has of their parents. It's a fear of hurting them or having them being disappointed in you. A fear involving deep respect.
So yes, religion is associated with fear! And that's what comes to mind when I hear the word 'religion'.
Wish ya well!

Yes, in a way. A fear of being alone with no superior being watching your back to support you when you fall. Those who believe in a religion and those who don't, they all need hope in something and religion is what gives people an escape from fear. Religion can be used to manipulate and hurt or help and save. Like in Iraq right now, men are killing -sacrificing, whichever you prefer- themselves because they believe in something better. They are not afraid of death any more but they bring fear to others from their antics.

Not necessarily. However, I do whenever I hear the biggest world religion, i.e. Christianity. That religion brings to my mind fear and manipulation. Christians don't love God out of pure love but fear of hell.

I associate it with community---people of a like belief who join together. I associate it with belonging, and with believing. I would never consider it fear-------at least, not in my religion.

No, I relate it to, the lake of continual torment, the lake of fire, or crucible. Does religion bring unspeakable joy, or endless war and bloodshed, a trail of tears of mothers who have no say? In the old testament, man made a War God for themselves because war is much quicker when you are intent on ruling the world.
