In Italy, 93 breeds are banned. It is part of a progressive program to restrict ownership to qualified people who can properly care for a dog. Any breed with teeth may be banned, as ALL breeds have bite cases. It's a much better way of controlling dog ownership.
German shepherds still have 20% of all bite cases whereas pit bulls have much fewer. The list used to accout for individual breeds so one could see where the bite cases come from, but since the pit bull knocking started, they changed the listing so we can't tell how few cases pit bulls have. Honestly, I'd be more afraid of being bitten by a chihuahua or a shih tzu.

I have two pit bulls and three kids, do you know who listens better? The pit bulls! I have had other kinds of dogs before and the other breed could get a little testy at times especailly with kids, but not my pits my kids can romp and play with them all the time and ruff play too and they are as gentle as can be. I believe any dog owner should be a resonsible one. People should be more worried how animals are treated by the owners and less worried about what kind of breed the owner has! Pitbulls have such a human like spirit I wouldn't have any other kind of dog!

It is completely wrong the dogs are not the problem people are. If you banned every Pit Bull the sick people who fight and raise these dogs to be aggressive will only find another breed to exploit. Just because they get rid of Pits do you think that they will stop fighting dogs.

I agree with M M. ANY dog can be mean. It is all in how they are raised. Besides...how could they do that? There are so many of them out there it may be virtually impossible for them to get rid of all of them. There are people like us that would keep the breed going. I have a pit bull and he is the best and smartest dog I've ever had!

They need to ban the idiot owners, not the poor dogs. Makes me sick to my stomach that "bad people" have turned the reputation of pit bulls into "bad dogs."
If the government really cared, they would address the people, not the animal. I guarentee the people who train those dogs poorly are also up to no good in other areas as well. They need to go.

Good breeders breed their dogs to have good temperaments. The Pit bull, Rottweiler, Doberman, German shepherd are all listed as dangerous dogs as they were originally bred for guard dogs. I believe a dogs temperament also depends upon how the dog is treated as it is raised. All dogs can bite. If you notice it circulates on which dog at the present time is deemed the most dangerous. I had a pit/chow years ago which was a wonderful dog and at the time they were both said to be dangerous. My mother and sister could not believe I had that breed of dog around my son until they came and babysat for a week and had been around the dog. They changed their minds rather quickly about her.

I think its great.
These dogs along with a large number of breeds are a highly unpredictable vicious dogs.
I have known several owners being bitten or attacked by their pit bulls.
Put them all down
Get a nice dog like a beagle or something.

My husband and I raise pitbulls. We love them. They are like our children. A lot of people jump to conclusions about pits. They are not vicious animals. A dog is what the owner trains it to be. All dogs kill, but they only blame pits because of their history. I live in Georgia and in our state, certain counties ban pitbulls. If they're going to ban pitbulls, they should ban dog raising in the state of California. Have you seen those mini chihuahua's? They're fiesty as well, but no one puts them down because they're "cute."

I think it's a buncha crap. It shouldn't matter what breed a dog is. A lot of dogs are bred with bad bloodlines, but not all of that breed is bad. I have grown up with pits for a long time, and I have never once experienced a mean one. It's all in how you raise them.
