Skateboarding is NOT a sport. It's banned & a felony in most states to ride one down the streets, whether on the sidewalk or city/town streets. Skateboarding is recreational.
Most people who skateboard are potential organ donors. Most do NOT wear helmets, kneepads, elbowpads or gloves. Even wearing this protective gear doesn't make you invincible to an accident. It does help protect your body. One wrong jump or turn can break a bone or cause paraylasis.

been skating for 15 years now could really care less if it was considered a sport or not. Just so you know it is in the sports section you have to go to sports to get to the outdoor rec section (being a smartass). We skaters don't need anyones sympothy speak for yourself we've lasted years the way its been and yeah skateboarding is getting more popular than ever and thats fine I hope we take over the world..(insert evil laugh)...um okay whatever i'm done now just shut up and skate.

I don't know. There should be an extreme sports category to include skateboarding, dirtbiking, BMX biking, surfing, ect.
By the way, not all skaters are law-breakers. Sometimes they can't help riding on the streets or whatever, because often there isn't a skatepark available where they can skate legally, and that isn't fair. The ones who are jerks and stuff just give the rest of skaters, who are usually just normal people, a bad name. There are jerks in every sport.
And skateboarding IS a sport. It takes a lot of practice, patience, determination, coordination, balance, and dedication.

It should be. Skateboarding is a sport. ESPN, the olympic committee, and Sports Illustrated have all recognized skateboarding as a sport.
I have known some golfers who were real thugs too. They were the guys importing the drugs that end up in the hands of a lot of kids who would otherwise just be participating in a great activity.
People who wear more safety gear, tend to take more risks. So the overall risk factor tends to even itself out. Do a search on risk homeostasis. Bull riding is far more dangerous and I have heard that many of the participants are meth heads, racists, and rapists.

Yeah i suppose it could be in the sports category but skateboarding isent considered as much of a sport as say football etc, as with sports like that the main focus is winning and the main objective with sport generally is to win. Wheres with skateboarding alot of people don't skate to win comps, they skate for fun therefore for alot of people its more just a lfestyle thing or something to do. Skating is mega hard though and the people that excel in it are definately atheltes whether they skate to win or not, i agree it should be in some sort of category even if not the sports one.

because it isn't a real sport, and most kids where I live are just lawbreakers (they trash the skateparks, and skate where they are not supposed to).
