Theodore Roosevelt Jr.-

Ted Jr. died of a heart attack shortly after leading his men onto Utah Beach, Normandy, France, during the D-Day Invasion. He is buried in Normandy, France, alongside his brother Quentin Roosevelt.

He also received the Congressional Medal of Honor

At least one General died in action in world war 2 I believe his name was Pratt he was airborne and was killed in the landing of his glider in Normandy. He was a U.S. soldier who was well regarded by his troops.
Ironically the extra armor they put in it to protect him made it nose heavy and he died.
