So we have only won guerilla wars on our home turf (and the Philippines?!? over 100 years ago - we were different peoples then)

All the nations that we democratized, stablized had recently been stable democracies and were effectively tamed in the aftermath of the worlds most consisently backed (with allies) battle (WWII) - again over 65 years ago.

None of them were in under-developed nations with chaotic histories; none in Muslim nations that have declared Jihad on us for being already TOO involved in their geopolitics. None recently. And no guerilla war that wasnt on our home turf.

If you believe we can win in Iraq without an over 1 million strong permanent army holding that country down, and without use extreme force, you are on drugs. I was dumb to ever support GWBush. Maybe I should have taken more history classes in college.

The first time the U.S. fought a war against Arab guerillas was between 1801-1805 known as the Barbary Wars (The other was in 1815 because Congress wanted to cut and run so we had to go back). This created the U.S. marines and the U.S. won those. The U.S. also won the American Indian Wars.

The U.S. helped stabalize and democratized Panama and the Phillipines in the '80s. The U.S. helped create and stabalize Israel and South Korea (which would have been overrun by the North Koreans).

As evidenced in japan and South Korea and Hong Kong, I think much more is accomplished through sharing the opportunity to achieve prosperity and educating The People of these nations as to what alternatives are possible to what they have now, but - and here's the catch - they have to WANT the change! And I don't think the masses of religious zealots in Iraq and the muslim world in general, want to change. They want their praying and tribal wars, and force is never going to change that.

We would have been considered guerillas during the American Revolution, and I believe we won that war.

No, they have not because the American citizens in general throw a fit when we are in a war. It's not because it's impossible or we're not capable, it's because in general Americans don't like war.
