The majority can be wrong. . .the majority of Americans thought slavery was OK and women shouldn't vote at random points in our history here in the US for instance.

But the concept of majority rule is in of itself not wrong because the majority is wrong some of the time. It is up to the individual participants of the majority to affect change.

No... and yes.

We have law, and usually law is based on a concept of personal and human rights. So, assuming those laws have been written, even if the majority feels something should happen a certain way, if the law states otherwise, the law wins (our government was designed to counteract the 'tyranny of the majority').

However, the majority CAN take actions to change those laws, even changing laws that are counter to the philosophies of human and personal rights (such as the recent changes to Habeus Corpus rights). So, in the end, the majority can usually 'win', but the hope is that enough realize that the law should not be changed that the law remains.

IT IS HARD TO UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF "MINORITY RULE." SOUTH AFRICA AND IRAQ ARE PRIME EXAMPLES. THE SUNNIS IN IRAQ HELD MINORITY RULE FOR 25 YEARS THRU INTIMIDATION AND MURDER. I DON'T KNOW MANY FOLKS WHO AGREED WITH THAT. THE MAJORITY CAN BE WRONG IN MANY SITUATIONS WITH REFERENCE TO TRADITIONAL MEANS OF DOING THINGS. A GRADUAL AND STEADY DEBATE AND ADJUSTMENT OFTEN CORRECTS THOSE ERRORS AND TIME IS ON THE SIDE OF JUSTICE. SOME CONFLICT IS EXPECTED BUT OPEN ARMED CONFLICT RARELY SOLVES THE PROBLEMS. THEY SAY SHIA AND SUNNIS HAVE BEEN KILLING ONE ANOTHER FOR CENTURIES.....AND WHAT HAS BEEN ACCOMPLISHED? A LOT OF DEAD PEOPLE-PERIOD. RELIGIOUS ZEALOTS NORMALLY TOTALLY LACK PERSPECTIVE AND PROPORTION AND FOR THOSE REASONS ARE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO ANY TYPE OF POLITICAL OR REASONABLE SETTLEMENT OF ANY PROBLEM. FORCE IS ALWAYS REQUIRED TO CORRAL THESE NITWITS. MAJORITY WANTS AND NEEDS MEAN NOTHING TO THESE THUGS. THE TYRANNY OF THE MINORITY CAN BE JUST AS ARBITRARY, DEADLY, AND UNJUST AS THE MAJORITY OPINION CAN SOMETIMES BE.
