Once the said joke is told I do stand over them glareing and prodding them. If this is wrong then please tell me the correct etiquette

Claire please don't prod me with an iron bar. Thats an unfair prod when someone just prods you with a didgit. You could just say 'please don't prod me' and then I would stop.

I would also like to add that being 5ft 1 has no shame and that small people can lead very full and worthwhile lives.

Its best to stand back. How can you be satisfied that they actually appreciate your humour, if you have to force them to laugh. Thats a real shame. I would get some different friends. Although I have to say, if you glared and prodded me - then I would have to prod you back. With an iron bar.

EDIT: I'm afraid I would have to take this course of action, since you are 6ft 7 and probably have hands like shovels, so your prodding digits would be very very sore!!!!!

2nd EDIT: Also, I am only 5ft 1, so it would only be a little iron bar, which wouldn't hurt very much.

The only way to know if someone thinks your joke is funny is to tell it with no visual cues, i.e., here on Yahoo answers! Even at 6'7" it would be hard for you to slap me from this distance, and I can't see your glare unless we both have a webcam and use it to communicate with each other. Even then, the resolution would be so poor, I'd have trouble determining you were glaring and not perhaps just thinking real hard.

Is the prod and glare part of the joke? If the joke is physical in nature, then judge whether the prod and glare is integral to the joke and then keep or discard it accordingly. If you find that people listen only to one of your jokes and then leave and never return for a second one, you must conclude that: A) they were too intimidated by your demeanor and actions to appreciate your humor, or B) the joke wasn't funny.

Hope that helps!

Why would you prod them? wouldnt it be better to just say a joke and if its not funny get over it?! tall people arent scary.. im sorry i hate it when short people get short people sindrome where they have to pick a fight with everyone they see!! actaully this can happen in tall people too so your hieght doesnt even matter!! I'm tall i have told a few jokes but i dont care if people like them.
My uncle used to tel a joke then stand there grinning at you and say it again and again till you laughed as if you didnt understand.. even if you said.. thats not actually funny he would say it AGAIN just to make sure you 'got it'!! its so werid lol

Im sure you are funny, dont try to hard tho eh!

I would not laugh at your jokes if you stood over me glaring and prodding at me, but I don't care how big people are. Tell me joke, let me tell you if I think it's funny.

What you may not realize - as a "tower" - is that the smaller statured of the world tend to cultivate their speed, agility, and cleverness and (possibly this is diluded of them) tend to be fearless in their confidence that they could out-run, out-maneuver, and/or out-smart the taller people of the world.

So - diluded or not, smaller people aren't as afraid of you as you may imagine they are. You're probably just one, big, giant, funny person.

Just in case there's any seriousness to your question: There's a chance that as a tall person you cultivated a great sense of humor in order to make other people more comfortable (because you do see your height as intimidating).

Ha! Good question.

My wife is nearly 6 feet tall, which puts her above most women. People do treat her differently. Something about the way she carries herself makes a lot of people think of her as a *****, but once they get to know her they find it isn't the case.

telling jokes is all about timing....Des O'Connor told me...try not to prod or glare at them as this would be scary...just give them a little time for said joke to sink in and smile and nod hopefully
good luck x

They are obviously petrified you may use them for shot putting practice. Have you seen the film Matilda? (from the Roald Dahl book).
