Although there may be a number of reasons, I personally think, as my cats do the same thing, that they are looking for attention. You are paying attention to those papers and such, and not to them. It also could be that cats, though they are frequently "loners", like to groom each other and get comfort in each others company; and since your cat probably thinks of you as a strange looking cat, he is just being sociable and spending "quality time" with you.

My cat favors magazines. The shiny paper seems to feel best to her. She'll rub it with her front paws, no claws out, for awhile, then lie down on it. She also does this with newspapers and other rougher-textured paper but seems to prefer magazines.
As for why, it just must feel good. She usually has a choice of carpet or paper or a choice of upholstery or paper. Sometimes she goes for the paper and sometimes she chooses the softer stuff. I never know why.

Paper is an excellent insulator and is very warm to lay on, much warmer than carpeting and most upholstery. There is also the factor of wanting to be the center of attention! My cat always loves to come and lay down right in the middle of what I'm working on!

The cat just wants your attention. I can't read a magazine or anything of the sort without my kitten crawling up and stepping all over the paper and putting his face right in mine. I give him attention when he does this, after a while he will go and play on the floor.

I'm no cat expert, I have a kitty of 7 months, but when I was revising recently on my sofa with book and papers, she would climb onto the book I was actually working on and would sit about 2 inches from my pen, so I couldn't write! It was quite funny actually, but I took it as a sign of affection, or maybe it just looked warm...........

Personally I think they like the sound the paper makes when they lay on it. My cat is the same.

My cat loves to lie on any types of paper. I think he likes the texture and the crinkly noise. He too likes wet towels...again I think it is the texture and possible the scent.

you forgot some---Thou shall no longer sleep wrapped round thy human beings neck at evening so as that with each and every breath you're taking has fur in it. Thou shall no longer sit contained in the food that's on the table at the same time as there's a cocktail party occurring. Thou shall no longer come onto the table and proceed to eat out of thy human beings plate.Thou shall no longer at 5am leap on the mattress and keep pushing thy head into thy human beings mouth till the human wakes and pats and loves the cat.keep in innovations this human beings--- a dogs says about human beings, you feed me, you want me, you play with me,you need to be a God. A cat says of a human, you feed me,you want me,you play with me, i should be a God.

Three reasons.
1) They love crinkly sounds.
2) They don't like you paying attention to something that isn't them.
3) They love to be mischivous.
