How about irrigation engineering students with shovels and computers as well as Bibles.
You can always read the Bible as interesting literature and amuse yourself talking about it to an intelligent missionary in exchange for the significant improvement in your country's agriculture which would be brought about if a focus were made on sending the INFORMATION instead of the grain and food itself. The tools, the big expensive machinery can be purchased by foundations and grad students in agricultural colleges can have a great time doing work toward a doctorate.
You don't have to have money to share if you have knowledge and a willingness to help people adapt what you know to how they do things. Work with them, help them improve their lot, and the next thing you know they are prosperous enough to be buying American-made goods! We call that a win-win situation.

I think Jesus gave the responsibility of helping the oppressed, feeding the homeless and fixing the injustice in the world to His disciples. You know, if Americans took the money they spent on Ice cream each year and gave it to a cause that truly supported bringing aid to starving people... the problem of world hunger would be resolved. I'm sure we could give up say, Doritos and get some irrigation in places where its needed

My answer is Jesus.
Psalm 146:3
"Do not put YOUR trust in nobles, Nor in the son of earthling man, to whom no salvation belongs."
Irrigation is good, however, there is just too much corruption.
I'll trust Jesus even if it takes a tad longer.

Both. Jesus is the one who can heal the hurt and suffering people. And He can give wisdom to know how and when to water which fields and crops. For those who are willing they may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that they may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

If irrigation occurs where it needs to, I'm sure that won't stop certain people from thinking their imaginary friend (Jesus) did it.
However, in the land of common sense, you just may have a point! Ha! Ha! :-)

I think men should stop mouthing off, and commiting acts of war, over the many available "gods" that they have to chose from, take your pick. They should SHUT THIER MOUTHS, roll up thier sleaves, and get to work making the world a better place, instead of destroying it.

There's one other way to stop suffering but it's not too desirable.
Mass extinction. No life=no suffering.
