Definitely a cheese and cracker platter. The best cheese would be a type of bleu cheese. (Keep in mind that that is actually a very broad category -- there are several varieties from many different regions) In my opinion, the best cheeses are aged ones from from the Iberian region like Spain and France.
With crackers you'll want something brittle and bland. But careful not to get to anything to dry - the cheese is dry and you don't want to make everyone super thirsty. I like using lavosh (cracker-like flat bread).
The only other suggestion I would have is you can cook a large beef tenderloin (keep it about medium rare) and then slice it very thinly and serve it with something like Melba toast.

One of the easiest ways to match pairings of cheese and wine is to match the country of origin. For example if you are serving a french wine serve a french cheese like brie. If you are serving an American version serve a premium cheese like a sharp Cheddar or Muenster.
Grapes are another great snack - always pair the grape color to the color of the wine. Other dried fruits work well too.I really like to pair dried apricot and goat cheese.
Dark and Milk chocolate are also good - white chocolate doesn't do as well as it is technically cocoa butter (more milk and sugar than cocoa.)
Wine and cheese are natural compliments, you can serve strong flavors as the wine will cleanse the palate between "bites".
I like "club" crackers for an all purpose use, or if you are on a budget. If you want to truly impress your guests try different flavors like cracked pepper, or rosemary flavored crackers.

You're probably tired of hearing "cheese and crackers". So, here's something of a similar variety but in a more fashionable, and tasty, presentation - Cheese fondue and a selection of gourmet breads and crackers. You know what else goes great with fondue? Believe it or not, apples dipped in the warm, melted fondue cheese tastes quite nicely.
For a little sweetness, the many people who have mentioned fruits are correct.

Swiss cheese and delicious apple are great together. I would also have a veggie pizza.
Easy to make take two cans of crescents rolls spread them out on a cookie sheet. Bake for 5 minutes. (350) . Take that out spread with sour cream and ranch dressing. Top with broccoli, spinach, carrots, tomato and what ever veggies you like. Have fun have a glass of wine for me.

Pate, cheeses, like brie, and of course bread, a nice french loaf.
Add a little fruit too, some grapes and strawberries. Maybe even a little chocolate. Good dark chocolate. YUM!
