Consequently, how long before you lose a pound of body weight if you restrict 3,500 calories from your diet? Just curious if it's immediate, a day, several days, etc. Thanks.

just because you eat an extra 3500 calories in a day does not actually mean it will truly show up on your body. A lot depends upon how fast your metabolism is, and your body composition as well. If you are of an athletic muscular build, you likely will not gain anything from this caloric increase unless you exercise in such a manner as to increase your muscle mass. (Muscle burns 2/3 more calories than other body tissues)

If you are of a larger, but non-muscular build, and you don't exercise you could actually put this pound of weight on within a day or two.

Again though, it depends upon your body's composition and what you are doing by way of exercise.

The answer can only be very approximate as you metabolism will adjust to the drmatic change in your caloric intake, be it up or down. One gram of fat is approximately 9 calories worth. Extra 3500/9 gived you 380 grams per day, so the extra pound will be there, theoretically, in a day and a half. However, you body can't immobilize that much fat so quickly.. The rule of thumb is indeed a pound a week. If you attempt this, you are very likely to get sick as well.

Your body burns about 1200-1600 calories without working out, just to keep your brain thinking and your organs working and doing the normal daily things like going to the bathroom or walking to the car... (everyone's exact metabolism is different but that is the general range for a healthy female.) So, if you work out for 2 hours and burned 2100 calories and your body used 1400 calories to function, then 3500 calories is not going to cause you to gain weight. Do not be ashamed!!! And, keep listening to your docs...

I'd say you'd notice the gain in a day or so and the loss would probably take a little longer to notice. Funny how that works huh?

well if you intake that many calories per day and don't exercise you should be able to show some weight within the first week or two.

Your weight fluctuates throughout the day, so I'm not sure you will be able to tell if you've gained just one pound.
