You can try compatability mode, but I haven't had much luck with it. Right click the shortcut -> Properties -> Compatability tab.

Right click on the Shortcut on the Desktop and go to Properties from there click on the Compatibility Tab and place a tick in the Run this program in compatibility mode for then in the drop down box choose Windows 95/98/ME/ choose one then click Apply then OK and see how that goes :)

You cannot run them. You need to find an installer of the same program for Windows XP. Many popular programs are available in several installation files.
