I've never used it because I'm afraid of getting a virus or something that will destroy my computer. What can you tell me about limewire?

Limewire is very dodgy, there are a lot of viruses but you just have to be careful with what you download. It is illegal depending on how you use it. Obviously when downloading anything with copyright is illegal but if you are after freeware then it is legal, so it isn't actually illegal to have the program Limewire.
If you do decide to get it, make sure that you only download files that are available from many users, also you can right click on the file and go to lookup, this will take you to a link where a user who has downloaded the file has commented on it. This can also be helpful in stopping you downloading a virus. Though if you antivirus is protecting you real-time, and is up-to-date then you shouldn't have to worry about viruses.

Hi, I dont think Limewire is all that bad. First of all the programma itself isnt illegal, as its meant to be for sharing of home-made things. However illegal use of it (like most ppl do) is ilegal so it kinda is.

I use limewire and I only got a virus once, and that was blocked before entry. All I would say is that only download things that you want to, and dont use it unless neccessary. Also only download things that you think are genuinely related to your search: the first few results are probably not (you can tell by name...)

Make sure you are also always disconnected (File>Disconnect) from the network, when you arent using it, and on the options, make sure that you yourself arent sharing anything to others (selfish but safe).

Just use it wisely only download things that have been downloaded loads of times (it says in the first column how many times its been downloaded).

Overall Limewire can be a good thing however you just need to use it wisely. Yes there can be risks, but as long as you have a good antivirus and play by these rules its got more good points than bad

First of all, a virus cannot "destroy" your computer. It can only mess up software installed on your computer - and software is easily replaced on your hard drive.

It doesn't matter if Limewire is legal or not. You will not be "caught" using it. You can download any .mp3 music files you want. But that's all it's really good for - music.

Just make sure you have an anti-virus program installed on your computer. And if you're only downloading mp3's from there, you don't have to worry about viruses. Let me know if you have any questions.

millions of people use Limewire. It's Illegal to use, but you will be also able to search for illegal things. Make sure your Virus program is up to date, and don't download anything under 500k, chances are it's probably a virus.

you may also want to read about a program called peergardian.

I use Limewire for about a year. It's good, of course it's not legal cause you don't pay to download. You might get a virus but that sometimes depends on you. You got to be careful before you download something.

Yes, it is illegal (to download copyrighted material, which is pretty much the only use for it) and half of the stuff on there is spyware. Don't download any zips, as on limewire, 99.9% of those are spyware/adware.

Try Bitlord. It's slower, but you're less likely to get a virus, plus the selection is greater.

I use it all the time and have never gotten a virus.

The downloading of copyrighted songs is illegal but limewire itself isn't.

Go ahead and try it. You'll love it.

Limewire is like almost every other download program you can download almost anything you put your mind too.

You can download content that is readily available online providing the content is being transmitted with permission.

Then it comes to downloading music which is Illegal to do so and getting court is a lot worse then people might think

Technically, LimeWire is not illegal.
It's "File Sharing" with people from around the world.
But the illegal part of it is that if you put it onto cd's and/or ipods
