The first plane was from France, although it was not the first powered heaver than air craft to achieve directed flight. The Wright bros. are generally accepted to have been the first to do that.

Sorry I don't have the frenchman's name, but he held many records for design and accomplishments in ballons and dirigibles, and is the father of controlled lighter than air flight.

The Wright Bros. didn't build the first plane in Kitty Hawk, N.C., but in their bycycle shop in Ohio, Kitty Hawk was the site of the first flight .

The first SUCESSFULL powered flight was at Kitty Hawk North Caroline in 1903. The airplane was built in Ohio by the Wright brothers Orville & Wilbur.
