I have seen the 07' scale. My husband will start off at E-3. My question is.. this amount, is this total for the month, or is this each pay (twice a month that the military pays you)? I have a booklet and everything I can look thru, but heck I dont understand it.

And also, what is taxed and what isnt? I understand that meal ect isnt taxed, but is the housing allowance taxed? And is this already included into the pay scale, or is it an addition to this pay?

Also, he's Army Nat'l Guard, and we havent yet seen a check, he just got sworn in Tues. and we're trying to figure out bills, ect, for when he's gone....
Thank you for attemtping to help make this clearer to me...!

The pay is for the whole month before taxes are taken out. Here is a list of what is taxable and what is not.

Taxable
1) Base Pay
2) Assignment Incentive Military Pay
3) Career Sea Pay
4) Career Status Military Pay Bonus
5) Enlistment Bonuses
6) Hardship Duty Pay
7) Imminent Danger/Hostile Fire Pay
8) Re-Enlistment Bonuses
9) Cost of Living Allowances (unless stationed overseas)

Non-Taxable
1) Dislocation Pay
2) Family Separation Pay
3) Clothing Allowances
4) Basic Allowance for Housing
5) Subsistence Allowance

Now all of this would be non-taxable if in a combat zone.

Total for the month. Depending on the state, you may not have to pay state taxes, but you pay like everyone else. Housing is in addition to the pay scale, it isn't on there. That depends on where you live. And you won't see a check because they are two weeks behind your work.

That is base pay for a month. It is taxable but the other allowances are not. The other allowances are added on in addition to base pay.
