My PC is a brand-new Windows XP Home Edition, and it frequently crashes, freezes-up, or slows down to a snail's pace, very much like I had a Dial-up instead of DSL Broadband. These things occur not just Online, but Offline, as well. My PC needs help desperately, and so do I, before I junk it or smash it. I'm at my wits end as to what to do since I'm new to computing. Thank You.

You may be running too many applications at one time (too much for your memory and processor to handle). Or you have little space left in your HDD. Windows needs to have enough space in the HDD to run smoothly.

Or perhaps, you may have incurred some spyware/malwares or even a virus from the Internet that is causing the slowdown.

You might wanna check also the running processes. You may have unwanted or unnecessary processes running.

Have you installed some tools like Norton Utilities or something similar? There are instances softwares like this can eat up too much memory and can slow down your system.

Antiviruses and Firewall courses can actual decelerate you computing device. 2d of all. i could test your computing device for viruses utilising despite Virus scanner you have (replace it first), i could get a secret agent ware scanner (like advert conscious), then i could get Ccleaner and use this software to freshen up previous registry keys and undesirable temp data. Then set your computing device for overall performance instead of for looks.
