Poor little guy! It sounds like he has skin allergies, or just really dry skin. Go to your local pet store, and buy some Oatmeal Shampoo. It's specially made for a dog's sensitive skin, and helps soothe itching and irritation. You can also go see your vet and he can tell you for sure what the problem is and treat it. Also, when you start giving the puppy a bath, make sure you rinse him really well, because sometimes the soap can irritate his skin, if it's not rinsed well. Also make sure, you dry him off really well. I hope he's better soon!

What you might think is dandruff might actually be mites or chewing lice that actually look like dandruff flakes. It' s pretty common and if that is the case you dont want this stuff floating around your house either. I use a variety of Frontline that lets me spray a light amount which will kill the bad stuff but not harm the puppy. If it is truly dandruff, try using head and shoulders shampoo (it wont hurt em) and adding rice to the egg yolk so it wont be so painful on his tummy.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Your puppy does not have dandruff, but does have a skin condition. Yes there are some great shampoos. Go to Petco, PetSmart ,etc. look in the dog shampoo section. Consider check with your Vet too, it might be mites, but more than likely it's an allergy.
What kind of food are you feeding your pup? I suggest 1 of the GOOD brands if you are not feeding it now.
I use Nutro Natural, but Eukanuba, Iams, all are excellent. I feed my dogs both Dry & can food. Just like us their health is based on food, exercise, clean water, stress free environment

Hi Kelcy!!
Dandruff is merely an accumulation of dried, dead skin cells.

First, A lack of fatty acids in your dog's diet may be a culprit. Dandruff is easy to get rid of if it's caused by dry skin, all you have to do is put a flax seed oil capsule or a teaspoon of flax seed oil in your dog's food every day. You will be amazed at the difference in your dog's coat.

Secondly, brush often. Maintain a regimen of daily brushing that stimulates the skin.

Lastly, wash it away.

The presence of dandruff can, however, indicate that the onset of serious health problems such as skin infections, allergies or an invasion of nasty parasites. mange is caused by tiny, eight-legged troublemakers called mites. There are three varieties of mange, each caused by a different species of mite.

It is important to make certain before you conclude that your dog's problem dandruff is just that - dandruff. Please do to vet!!

I think the egg yolk is a good start, also using salmon oil with their food (use just a little at first!) If you're not feeding a good brand of food (Innova, Evo, Wysong, Merrick, even Nutro or Nutro-Max) you may want to think about switching as the grocery store brands (Iams, Purina, Pedigree, Eukanuba, etc) can cause skin reactions because of all of the corn fillers that these companies use.
I use a Zoom Groom for my dogs to groom thoroughly and they love it. Pulls out a lot of dead hair and the long rubber teeth get to the skin. Don't over shampoo your dog - that removes oil from the skin that they need. HTH-

Purchase good quality dog food, the grocery store doesn't sell it, you'll need to go to a pet supply or vet's office. Also, add Innova health bars to the diet, they are full of omega3 fish oil which will help his skin and hair.
