I'm not trying to alarm you, I promise.
But I started out the EXACT same way. Lump in throat. Couldn't swallow it, couldn't spit it out. yada yada yada It was Lymphoma.
Check this site for good info, and to see if you have any other symptoms:
http://www.leukemia-lymphoma.org/hm_lls
Any itching? Night sweats?
There are many other things that it could be. Please try not to be frightened. But, don't get off your doctors' back until you know what it is and Lymphoma has been ruled out.
Best wishes.

If you have acid reflux disease, then you will have heartburn even when you don't eat spicy food. Plus, those with acid reflux are so used to it that they don't know that they actually have a low level of "heartburn" all the time. It's like they are used to the pain. Due to the discomfort of acid reflux (even though if it is ignored due to being used to it) one's body may tense up, especially at the throat (hence a possible cause for the lump feeling) causing one's sinuses to drain or constant post nasal drip (hence the clearing of the throat). My recommendation is listen to your doctor and take the nexium. It will take a while for it to kick in and for your throat to heal. By the way, other things you can do is to reduce your stress levels and get more exercise (another stress reducer). Personally I also drink bottled water with a low ph level (less than 7 - where I live different mineral waters are all over the place). It helps combat the acid.

By the way, don't be concerned. That will only stress you out more provoking the production of acid. After a while, you'll see results.

When you have an area of irritation in your throat (like from heartburn or after you choke on something) the sensation can remain for a long time. Especially if you're neurotic about it. You can set up a syndrome called Globus Hystericus. http://www.nexiumresearch.com/globus_hystericus.html

Basically, you feel something that is not there. It is very common with GERD (gastric reflux). So, even though you are not actively experiencing heartburn, you may still have reflux. Take the Nexium daily, eat 6 small meals a day (not 3 large ones), keep something on your stomach at all times, don't overfill your stomach, take Maalox 4 times a day (after your main meals and before bed.)

You could have swollen gland's and this can be aggravated by reflux from the spicy foods you eat on occasion get your self some mylanta for when you have heart burn this will help, or you could just drink milk if there is nothing else available to you if you are not happy with your prognosis insist on seeing another doctor there not always right and a second opp-ion will not hurt and might reassure you all is well

My mom had the same feeling in her throat and didn't feel well for a long time. She thought she only had a sore throat and treated herself for just that. We finally told her to go to the dr, as we felt there was a more severe problem and sure enough it turned out to be cancer. She is undergoing treatments now, radiation and kemo, and is not doing very well, get to the doctor before it is too late! The treatments make you feel bad too but hopefully it will take care of the problem, it will not go away by itself.

interesting.
I thought I was the only one. I have had that feeling in my throat for years. If you have an actual bump, it could be so many things, but I highly doubt it is due to heart burn. I would be more likely to take anti inflammatory like ibuprofen and see if it shrunk it any.

I would also find another doctor, one that don't only prescribe meds. that is a bandaid, not a cure... you have to find out what it is in order to fix it.

Good luck

Ask your doctor for a "swallow test". I had one done. It was very simple. They gave me a solid to swallow, a pudding, and a liquid. They filmed my swallowing..Don't ask me the technical term for it. However, by this test they were able to determine that the cause was due to an old neck injury when i had a car accident years ago. Turned out to be calcified neck verterbrae. Nothing to worry about but have to be careful when eating and have to drink liquids to help swallow..So see it might not be so bad.

It does not sound like cancer, but you do have a problem. Keep up with the doctor, you do need to find out what that is.
