i know, silly question...but really would you be considered a federal employee?

Yes because you fall under the Deparntment of Defense...and if you were in the military the time you were in counts towards your retirement...

Depends if its a contract then technically you are working for the goverment, but your employer isnt dirrectly the goverment. So I would say no in that situation.

If its a GS or WG position those are federal jobs. In some cases they are in charge of military members. These in my opinion are federal civilian jobs for the military.
