Yes, you can buy something as long as you are with someone with a membership card. They check for cards when you enter the building, and when you check out. If someone with a card is with you, you can certainly pay for the item(s) with you own money. You must pay with cash or a debit card however. The only credit card they accept is AMex, and I believe (though not sure), it must be a Costco Amex card.
The membership is $50 for Costco, and I definitely think it is worthwhile. I do most of my shopping there. They have excellent products in general. I don't think you would be disappointed. I am sure they offer some kind of tour, or perhaps a week or day long membership, if you wanted to try it out. If they do, perhaps they would also let you buy something in case you don't know anyone with a membership. Something you might want to call and ask them.

From time to time Sam's will offer guest passes (Sometimes from Wal-mart, and sometimes from other venues like their Website or Newspaper advertising). They also used to allow you to buy a trial membership for a day or a few days (I can't remember which) but that was back when they were first starting out, not sure if they still do it anymore. It never hurts to ask them if you can get one, if enough people ask, they may start doing it again. Sorry to say I know nothing about Costco, I only shopped there for about a year back in 94, 95 time frame when I lived in Miami right before the ones down there were bought out.

I don't know about Costo, but Sam's periodically puts an ad in local newspapers offering a "free day" for those without a membership. They may even offer one on their website?
good luck & blessing

2 ways to get in, tell the doorman your party is already inside with the membership card, or tell them you want to get a 1 day trial pass to browse. Once inside, you can ask someone to use there membership to buy and pay cash. I've done this several times before I decided to get a memebership.

On rare occasions, they have a "guest day", where you can shop without a card.
The reason is simple. Last year, for example, Costco reported that 80% of their profit was generated by membership fees. The margins on the products they sell are so low, they barely break even on them. The money is in the membership fees.

I don't know about Costco, but I think you have to pay 25 percent more if you don't have a Sam's Club card. Sometimes, Sam's will put a free, 1-day pass in the newspaper. Go on line to www.samsclub.com and see if they offer a free, 1-day pass.

I know that sometimes Sam's will offer a one day trial period coupon. These will allow you to temporarily take advantage of the discounted merchandise. But again, it's only good for one visit and one person. Call your local Sam's club or Cosco to find out if and when they participate.

If you have a friend, you can pay cash only. They are allowed one guest. No interac, or credit cards. Also the website allows you to purchase certain items (large selection of furniture, tvs, home electronics) at a %5 or %10 fee. sometimes it's worth it to shop online.

Yes you can, Sam's prescription counter is open to none members (as for Costco no you need to be a member), Sam's optical is open to none members (Costco you need to be a member).
The above are the only things open to non members at Sam's club.

You can if you are the guest of someone with a membership. That person needs to be with you.
