Well I would need some more information but I will give you what I can with what you gave me.

My son had some issues and he did not sleep through the night. He would wake up and come and get in our bed or on our floor. I hated it with a passion. Our son had for some reason suffered from insomnia. This could be the case with your children especially the four year olds. There is something out there called Saratona and it is suppose to be a natural sleep aid for children who cannot sleep.

Another thing would be to impliment the bad time ritual, where you put them in their bed at bed time and if they don't stay you just keep putting them in the bed. If they wake up one of you get up and go back and put them to bed and sit with them till they fall asleep, but not on their beds on sit on the floor. This will let them know you mean business they are not going to sleep in your room.

I have the same problem with my four year old. I have tried everything - the best thing that has worked thus far is changing the clock in his room and "tricking" him to think it's later than it is- then by bed tiome he is pretty nmuch asleep. However I still have problems with him coming into my room late at night.

Are they active enough through the day? Do they settle down in the evening? They say if kids are wound up in the evening they have a harder time sleeping through the night.
If you can get them to drink chamomile tea at bedtime that might help
