Because they are mostly soft and furry. And people like to pet them. Mostly soft, I need to point out. Some ain't so soft, but that ain't a bad thing either. And you get the occassional hairless one also. Still nice to pet, just like the hairless cats.

Because Cats are Sneaky mother Fcukers. You dont know where they have been, they sneak out quietly, they come back when they need food and than they rub their backs on your pants . they are never there when you need them. I absolutely get mad and kick the MF's. So thats why
