I think it has to do with the same reason the my Cashews say may contain nuts on the side. Our society has become so reliant on others to tell us what is and what isn't, that if you have an allergy or for any other health reason you turn the product around and read the label. So there is it in plain English, even if you should already know it.

From a regulatory perspective, there have been some new labeling regulations that requires manufacturers to specifically point out the allergens in the ingredients. For example, most Chinese food are not perceived to contain wheat, but wheat is an ingredient in soy sauce which is used widely in Chinese food.

Because alot of people are allergic to peanuts and if they dont have common sense, then they wouldnt know that peanut butter contains peanuts.

they are required to by law, because many ppl like myself are highly allergic to peanuts, and anything that may have even a residue of peanut must be listed, quite silly to do it on the actual pnut butter, tho hahah

I think this is for legal reasons. They have to put a warning that the product contains allergens otherwise they might get sued.

People are highly alleric to them. Allergies to penuts have been a huge thing lately. My friend works at a daycare and they are not allowed to serve any kinda of food with penuts in them to the kids until a certain age (i believe 2 years but not sure) because of the risk. Because some people are just not intelligent. Its like why is there a warning on a hair dryer that says do not use in water.

There are lots of labels like that, like sleeping pills may cause drowsiness. It's because so many people sue over stupid stuff, the corporations often have to state the obvious to protect themselves from the idiots and their idiot lawyers and the idiot judges who buy this crap.

because a lot of people now days are allergic to peanuts, so they health department requires them to put the label on. chocolate bars have these labels on them,too.
