the hd channels are great.
other channels worse than the old tube tv

hd tv's are not meant to have good analog pics unles you utlize multiple video inputs. In addition to your 5 component or your HDMI cable utilize a coaxial cable from cable box to tv
this should improve quality of your analog channels as they are of a smaller size than HD and your TV does not have to try and fill in the gaps f the missing information

"Normal" as in Analog cable?
Analog cable will look crappy no matter what you do. Make sure you upgrade to digital and it is time to purchase those HD channels or get a good off-the-air antenna

Get an outboard upscaler. This item will upscale all inputs to your TV to HD resolution. Just search for them on Google or Yahoo or even Nextag or Shopzilla.
