I'm 5'8" not exactly an amazon, but people make me sound like one. I get comments like "wow you're a tall girl" or how tall are you, and i answer and they act like i'm lying. I hate when they say "wow you're tall do u play basketball"? I feel like saying wow you're short do you play miniature gulf? but i don't want to stoop to their level.
I'm not that tall. Why do people feel it's okay to ask me this all the time??
It's kinda like saying wow you are really fat! Not really the same, but you get what i'm saying. So is it rude or should i let it slide????

I am 5'10" and I ALWAYS get some stupid comment like those you mentioned. More times than not, they're just jealous! Be PROUD of who you are and forget those stupid people that obviously cannot come up with something a bit more intelligent to say other than "how's the weather up there ha ha ha".
By the way-I wear 4" heels everywhere, I love shoes, yea it makes me feel a little bit insecure because I am taller than most men with them on (6'1") but that's just because society these days refuses to accept anything other than "normal" height, "normal" weight, "normal normal normal" screw them, do what makes YOU happy!!!

I'm 4' 10" from GH deficiency. Because of that, I also look younger than my age (I'm 24, will be 25 in April.) When I would go on assignment for one radio station I worked for a year or two ago, many of my interviewees didn't know whether I was really a reporter or not because of that. I had to carry a letter from my news director (credentials) more often than most as well so I wasn't given a hard time.
It can be hard being different, but if something offends you, tell people it offends you. That's the only way they'll learn.

I am not sure how old you are, but if you are younger (in your teens), it is definitely unusual to see girls 5'8" and taller. Even if you are older, 5'8" is above normal. You are on the taller end of the spectrum. You could also have a body type that gives the illusion of you being even taller than you are.
I am sure they are not trying to hurt your feelings at all. Most people want to be taller, so when they see a taller person, they are attracted to it, notice it and comment on it.
Although it probably isn't the most polite thing to comment on, it is something that is pretty accepted in our society. I would suggest that you not become defensive on it. You should probably just respond....I'm really not that tall, just a little bit over average!
Good luck.

Undoubtedly because it's the first thing they notice about you. Actually, it might really be interesting if you addressed it whenever it happened. Tell the person that people always mention your height, and you're never sure how to interpret it. Then see what they come up with. They might be embarrassed, or they might tell you how beautiful they find tall people. I wouldn't automatically assume that it was an insult, merely an observation. And if it bothers you, you can tell them that it makes you feel self conscious when people mention your height and you'd prefer that they didn't.
But only if you feel that way.

I'm 5'9", and feel like an amazon where I live. It seems like I tower over people. I've found a good way to diffuse it is to go into a lengthy story. Like, "Thanks! I must have good genes! My mother was 5'10" and my father was 5'10" too! What a coincidence, huh? And I used to pray that I'd get that one extra inch!" Just annoy them with a long story and maybe they'll get the hint that it was a lousy remark to make, get bored, and walk away. Nobody likes hearing personal history.

It is very odd. Do you wear 4 inch heals or something? I am around that height and rarely get told that except if I'm talking to a person who is 5' or if I have heals on.
I would let it slide. Not worth you getting all aggravated over.

Wish I knew why they have to comment. I have the same problem on the opposite end. I'm 4'11". For 60 years I've been called Shorty. Told I forgot to grow up. Do you need a boaster seat at a restaurant. It's endless. I ignore it all.

I'm 5'0" and I always hear about how short I am - I guess it's something that you just have to get used to - that doesn't change the fact that it's a rude comment to make. I just smile at people and say "yup I'm short and you are really observant".

I have always wanted to be a few inches taller. I don't think that it is a bad thing to be tall. I am sorry that people are making you feel bad about it. I am only 5'7".

Oh man..you have a great height. People who care to comment on your height are just insecure about their own. Maybe they just have to find something to tease you about. Dont even worry about it. You'll get a lot of attention from men cause men (like me) love tall women! :)
