I bought an LCD just the other day. When I was at Sam's Club, I was looking at the Plasma TV's. My Sam's Club has only been open for about 6 months (Morgantown, WV, call for proof). One of the Plasma TV's was already messed up because the Plasma gas was going. Both of the bottom corners were very messed up. Now this TV is on 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, but it's only been doing this for 6 months... Now I know that this is probably uncommon that it would ever happen this soon to other Plasma's, and most TV's come with a one year warranty, but this will eventually happen down the road... If you play video games, and say you play a lot of Halo or Final Fantasy, If you play these games to much the heath meters and ammunition and other items that stay on the screen will burn into the screen. Just like old PC monitors that did have screen savers, the screen burning is permanent.
However, I have heard that plasma gives better picture quality, so there are some pros to Plasma TV's as well.
My Sam's Club in store only had a 42 inch Sylvania Plasma for only $800. The store associate said that they were selling like crazy because most Plasma's of that size sell in the $1200 range. I actually turned it down and went for the 32 inch Vizio LCD for only $700. They also have a 37 inch vizio for $900.

Up to 46" lcd are far better. Above this some people say plasma have a very slight edge. If you intend gaming on it avoid plasma. The best on the market at present is the Sony Bravia range.

Don't but plasmas after 10 years or so the tiny colour specs start popping and you'll have no colour in part of the screen
