I am afraid that the only treatments for pinworms that I know of are precriptions. Mebendazole. Once immediately then again in 2 weeks. Meanwhile, all other family members probably ought to be treated too. Wash ALL bedding, clothes etc. in HOT water.

I just called the pharmacy at the hospital where I work. They tell me that Vermox is only available by Rx. Pin-Ex (pyrantel pamoate) can be bought over the counter.

it can be treated w/o a doctor but the problem here is that you have to be 100% sure that the infection is cause by Enterobius vermicularis (pinworm) and that the other members of your family are ok, the drug of choice is pyrantel pamoate but you can try with vermox (mebendazole), try 2 tablets of 100 mg and repeat it after 2 wks. and you should give 1 tablet to every member of your family (including your pets) a the same time to prevent reinfection good luck

A RX drug is required for complete irradication.
