A few years ago when I worked as a stylist they wanted 12 inches but preferred 14. The process of making the wig uses up several inches of the hair.

It's a minimum of 10 inches. About 15 months ago, I donated over two feet . . . I miss my hair!

It's not about "how long down your back" it's how much you can cut off in a pony tail. Locks of Love wants at least 10 inches, but Pantene's Beautiful Lenghts program will accept 8 inches. You can check it out at http://www.pantene.com/en_US/beautifullengths/requirements.jsp
Good luck.

I'm nto sure how long it has to be, but I DO know that it CANNOT be colour-treated. Not sure why, it must have something to do with what they do with the hair after they cut it.

I'm pretty sure it has to be at least six inches.
