My son (who is 8 years old)has had a runny nose for about 2 days. This morning he said his throat was a little sore. The school has had a lot of sick kids lately so I figure he has caught something. Should I take him to the doctor today even though he doesn't seem to be too bad yet or do I wait till Monday and see if it gets worse? I think it's probably just a little cold but there have been different kinds of ilness going around here like strep throat and viral infections. Our doctors office is only open Monday through Friday.

He's not running a temp yet. Which is why I am undecided over taking him now or waiting.

Ms.New..Why would I have even asked this question if I didn't care about my child? I have 2 children. If I took them to the doctor everytime they had a sniffle I would be just as well to set up a tent in the parking lot. I love my children very much and I just don't want to subject them to all of the other illnesses going around in the waiting room at the doctor's office if I don't need to.

If he is acting fine and not running a fever I would wait until Monday. You could always give him some over the counter stuff for a cold to see if that helps him and it is cheaper than the doctor (depending on your co-pay). You could also take him to the doctor and have the test for strep done but for the most part a few germs will not hurt him but make him stronger.

just give him lots of TLC and watch his temp before going to doctor. Children's aspirin is good to take, if he can of course.
Its cold and flu season, just use common sense and watch his temp and check his tonsils if he still has them, they are a re sign to go to the doc if they are red and hurting
Children need to have the flu a few times to develop immunities to it as a adult. To be able to not get sick all the time when they are grown, like parents who intentionality expose smaller kids to chicken pox, so they get it over with and it isn't a big deal later on..
So don't fret so much over the sniffles and be thankful that's what your stressing about. Just bite that bullet and you'll both get through it. Good luck.

Yeah, that sounds about precise. scary isn't it. A fever of 102.5 is a red flag of a few thing incorrect. With teething, my son under no circumstances went previous one hundred. although he spiked 102.7 coming off the plane and seems he has a foul ear an infection. And he became performing quite popular in the different case. Is he pulling his ears or rubbing at them? Get an appointment scheduled asap for him only in case. some issues can't be clinically determined over the phone.

You are the one who needs to decide and, of course, you are concerned about your son's health. To tell the truth, I think you might be over reacting to the symptoms of an ordinary cold. You mention no fever. I'd wait till Monday to see how he does over the weekend. If things turned suddenly bad; there's always the ER, but I doubt very, very seriously that it would come to that. The thought, though, is a nice safety net.

seems it is not that bad and it is just maybe caused by cold season, so maybe you could stil wait. Because that would still can heal soonst or just be gone. Try giving him some simple remedies at home like giving him plenty of lukewarm drinking water or citrus juices. Try letting him gargle with salt & water for his sore throat. best wishes.

Take him now. If he gets worse over the weekend, and your doctor's office is closed, then he will have to suffer through it till Monday. It's not worth waiting. Better to be safe than sorry. Hope he gets better soon.

If its just a virus, which is sounds like it is, a doctor can't prescribe anything anyway. Antibiotics are for bacteria. He has a virus. He will be just fine with lots of sleep, nutritional food and lots of unsugared liquids. Just monitor his temperature and give him some Jr. Tylenol if he's uncomfortable.

I would take him today. Just because he doesn't have a fever doesn't mean that he doesn't have strep or something else.
