Once he went to seminary and has that degree, does he now possess the Holy Spirit? Then why do all Pentacostal pastors have the quote/unquote gift to slay people in the spirit and heal and prophesy and interpret tongues? I am a Christian but I wonder how this is possible. I thought God gives diverse gifts of the spirit to whom He will, not that everyone who graduates pentacostal seminary gets all of those gifts.

To answer some of you, no, I'm not confused. Every pentacostal pastor has can do it all. Other people in the church have some gifts but he has them all. (supposedly) I believe we receive different gifts from God. It's just funny how all the pent. pastors and tv evangelist came out of bible school having all of the gifts.

To Hasse_john - Obviously you're Jewish. I mean no offense to Jewish people. I believe that Jesus was and is your messiah. If you don't, then that's fine.

Pentecostals would argue that everyone can have these gifts by asking God for them, not just preachers. This is a gift recieved apart from salvation. However, the Bible is clear in Acts 2, Romans 6, Colossians 2 and several other places that the Holy Spirit is recieved at Conversion (normatively @ baptism). The pentecostal doctrine of the Holy Spirit uses 1 Cor 12, 14 to argue that you have evidence of the Holy Spirit inside you when you speak in tongues, prophecy, lay hands on the sick to recovery, etc... but the biblical doctrine is that the Holy Spirit is God in you, making you more like Him in the way you think, act and speak. The Holy Spirit produces the things listed in Galatians 5 and teaches you to get away from the bad things listed there. Also, check out Hebrews 12

Okay, you are really confused and I am not sure where to start.
Everyone who accepts Jesus as their Savior is "born again" and receives the Holy Spirit at that moment. John 3:5-8
Now the Pentecostal movement as well as some of the other denominations hold the belief that there is a second baptism of the Holy Spirit by which the person receives additional "gifting" or power to do specific works. This is in Acts where the disciples were told to wait until they had received "power from on high." Acts 1 and 2. and they were in the upper room when the Holy Spirit came upon them and they spoke in tongues.
This is not the same as the diverse gifts of teaching or preaching or prophecy or other things. Paul spells this out in 1 Corinthians 12 and in some of his other epistles. Nor is it the fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-26
Not all Pentecostal preachers have those particular gifts universally.
Nor is it meant for the preachers only.
This is a very brief overview of what might help you understand.
It is of enormous importance that you read your Bible for yourself asking God to give you correct understanding.
So everyone who believes recieves the Holy Spirit, but the gifts of the Spirit for the work He wants done varies according to what God wants of that individual, but no one is without a gift.
You are correct that it has nothing to do with going to some bible college or degree or anything like that.
It has everything to do with the personal realtionship with God.

You are right, Pentecostal seminary has nothing to do with it. I've never been to seminary, but I've had the baptism in the Holy Spirit since 1979. Check I Cor 12 and 14 for teachings about the gifts of the Spirit.

When a person gets saved the Holy Spirit comes in and dwells with them then. The bible says if ye have not the Spirit you are none of his. So to those pentecostals who think you get the Holy Spirit later then they are not even saved. Tongues was used to witness not prove you have the Spirit.

You are right with your understanding of the Bible, and the Pentecostal has misinterpreted the scriptures. Look for a church which not only believes, but practices all that the Bible teaches, especially the one found in Ex 20:8-11. That's why it starts with "remember," because God knoew we would forget.

hey..!..hmn..are you sure they all slained those people??..haha just asking. anyways.. here's the thing, .. my brother.. all of us, not just those who went to those kind of schools, can gain the Holy Spirit since we are all a temple of the Holy Spirit.. right?? gaining the Holy Spirit is a desire from our own hearts.. this is not a gift of the HS, you meant the speaking in tongues ,prophesy, healing, translator of tongues, and,, what were the others...hmn.. yeah.. i think there was about seven of them.. God did say that we can't have all these gifts,so that we would need each other as a church. but having the HS in you is different, this is also a gift from God, but not one of those 7 gifts..this one is for EVERYBODY....

I believe that it is possible, for say, a non-Christian to go to Bible college out of interest in theology and not gain the Holy Spirit. However, if you go a Christian and spend the majority of your time learning His word and studying His teachings, then you're inevitably going to come out of the other side of it more religiously inspired.

Churchianity is a religion, but not the religion of the Almighty YHVH! If one believes in the true Creator, one will be obeying Him, and coming out of Babylon. They also will not be calling the Messiah by some pagan name! See Ex 23:13! His name is YAHOSHUA! (It means YHVH is my Savior)
