Because it makes them feel better to put others down. ANd if you stand up for yourself, put them in their place, or make them look stupid they get mad because they're not being the dominant one. All it is, is control over you

Because they wants to be the important ones and belittles you to keep you from being important as somehow they feel you are reason being you stand up for yourself and they do not like it.
