You've probably tried this already, if you've had cats for years but what we have done in the past is to have one of us on each side of the cat flap. Then one pushes the cat through and the other gives it some ham and pushes it back through again...it gets more ham...then after a while, have no one on the outside but push some ham out through the flap while the cat is watching and hopefully it goes through to get it.
Hope that helps!

I recently installed a cat flap and my 3 cats sat looking at it wondering what it was I tried coaxing with food, not to much effect. I kept opening the flap for them to go in and out, then just tapped it slightly so the magnet dis-engaged and they could smell the air outside. After the first day they got the hang of it.

Is it possible that your two cats are afraid of the cat flap? On accident one day, my daughter shut our cats tail in the door. Ever since then he is terrified of cat flaps, cabinet doors or things like that. They may just have a fear of the flap and dont want to mess with using it. I like what the other answers said about using treats and food and such. Just let your cats get use to it slowly every day and more and more frequently use treats to get them to go through it. You may have to reinforce the cat door and what it is for, but just do it slowly and lovingly . They will get the hang of it and you will all be happy.

they will eventually learn in there own time but you can use treats behind them and encourage them! or simpally keep on opening and closing the cat flap and soon they will learn. However DONT force them out. Or they will get afraid of it and will not go near it you can get there paws and press it slowly against the cat flap so it opens they will not feel disturbed then just slowly and gentelly grab there paws and make them open it by pushing them against it not to hard soon they will get the idea. Well good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my new house has a cat flap, and my 2 old cats had never used one... wouldn't go near it for a week, so we moved EVERYTHING, food, water, litter box outside into the garage. Eventually they get hungry, or have to pee and will go through it.
Now, from time to time I will catch them playing with each other from either side of the flap. It has now become a game to them.

Put their favorite treat on the other side of the flap and see if that inspires them to figure it out. Make sure that the treat has a strong enough smell that they can pick it up from the other side of the flap.

I think that if you put cat food on the other side of the flap that they'll figure it out. Cats are smart.

Put food or cat nip on the other side of the cat flap. They'll work it out.
