NOOOO!!! I started smoking at 15 and I'm nearly 30 and it is so hard to quit once you are addicted! I smoke 2 - 3 cigarettes a day and I know that doesn't sound like much but every cigarette you have does you damage. I'm quitting on my 30th birthday and I know it is going to be such a huge challenge!!! If there is anything you can do to get him to stop smoking, try it. For example, take him to a cancer ward where people who have smoking related cancer and diseases are. Get a doctor to show him how smoking affects your body. Show him how much smokers spend in a year on cigarettes. I never used to smoke 2-3 cigarettes a day, more like half a packet a day 7 yrs ago and I nearly cry thinking about the money I wasted that just went up in smoke. STUPID STUPID STUPID ME!!! Don't let your son become as stupid as me. Help him as best you can.

I'm sure that's not the real question. It is hard to get someone to stop by harassing them, so try a heart-to-heart rather than parental authority. (He might be rebelling against you, so ordering him to stop might not help. Even if he isn't rebelling, it isn't the way to go.)

He may think he only does it occasionally and that he could stop any time and it isn't that bad. He would be wrong on all counts. If he could stop any time, dare him to not smoke for a week. While there are some people who only smoke when they drink, or when they are with their smoker friends, he needs to realize that nicotine is more addictive than heroin and that cigarettes kill more people than all illegal drugs combined. Many pack-a-day smokers thought they could quit any time when they were kids.

While that is the real reason to quit, other reasons are that you smell--you hair, clothes, hand, and mouth. It slows you down--a few cigarettes a day will make it harder to walk, run, and so on--he just doesn't notice it yet because his youthful health compensates for it. Finally, they are expensive, mostly due to excise taxes to pay for the increased health care costs smokers put on the state. I live in a tobacco state and they cost $3.00 a pack--in other places they are $5.00 a pack. You can see how quick that adds up (multiply by thirty for a month's supply) if you become a pack-a-day smoker, and a pack-a-day is a normal amount for a smoker to smoke!

I wouldn't advise the 'make him smoke till he's sick' approach advised above. This could be disgusting, but you are putting a lot of addictive nicotine into his system. That plan could work, or it could backfire badly.

That should be some ammo to help convince him. Hope it helps.

um, no its not healthy for anyone to smoke no matter what age they are. And since you know he smokes, and hes only 15 you could get into some trouble with the law.

Smoking is unhealthy at any age! Get him to break the habit now! Do what ever you can to make him stop. Check out some sites that show the effects of smoking and make sure he knows that there are consequences to his actions!
