My tools are a laptop, a workstation running UNIX and a collection of programs that I think of as tools. I'm an electrical engineer by the way doing circuit design.

The tax code has been used for social engineering and favoritism for special interests for as long as it has been around. There is nothing fair about it for the taxpayers who get stuck with the bill. A large tax on tobacco is not meant to stop people smoking! It is for government revenue! If everyone quit smoking and the government was deprived of the revenue generated by tobacco, do you really think that the tax would go away, or would the government make some excuse to "adjust" the source so that they wouldn't have to lose the money? A tax on sugary drinks is based on the same principle. It has nothing to do with controlling obesity or diabetes or anything like that. It is all about MONEY! And if everyone stopped drinking sugary drinks, the government would do the same thing as it would if everyone stopped smoking - shift the taxes onto someone else!

If you are talking about engineering as in civil engineering, we don't use tools much. We have white-collar jobs. We use books, calculators, pens, and pencils. We try to do most work on computer because it is generally easier though.

It depends on what kind of engineering you're doing. A number of companies sell specialized kits of tools for various purposes.
