I just recently had what I believe to be a panic attack. I had to go to the ER b/c my heart rate was at around 188, and now I'm struggling with anxiety, like fear of having another one, and just feeling down all the time, and depressed. Does anyone have any suggestions (other than taking medications) to help me overcome this before it gets any worse? Like breathing tecniques, or relaxation tecniques, just anything would help. I don't want to live like this forever. Serious answers only please. Thank you.

Wow, sorry to hear that you're going through that. I completely understand. I am 34 years old and I have had severe GAD - General Anxiety Disorder for about 16 years now. It can be hell to struggle through life like that. For some people it is a temporary thing, while others have it for the rest of their lives. I have done ALOT of research on this subject. I seriously suggest seeing a therapist. They can be alot of help to you. The key is to learn how to cope and try to control the anxiety instead of letting it control you. Dont be afraid to get meds if you need to. They can really help and make your quality of life alot better. I know of a few good websites and a live online chat room, support group for people living with anxiety. If you want the web address for this group feel free to email me through here and I will give it to you.
www.paniccenter.net is a great site where you can read alot of good accurate info and people can post their questions, answers, etc. Good luck to you. I hope this is only a temporary thing for you.

I once went to the ER thinking I was having a heart attack, turned out to be anxiety, funny thing was I was not sure why I was anxious all the time. I could worry over minor stuff for hours, was obsessed with house cleaning , became very cranky with hubby and kids if they made even a slight mess, I saw a therapist for a few months and while I felt better after talking to her It still did not help me change, I finally decide to try paxil at her suggestion and have now been on it for 7 years, the anxiety is totally gone, I have never had another anxiety attack, and do not lose my temper like I used to. You might consider talking to your doctor about trying it. good luck.

you need to let go of the past experience. a panic attack can be a one time thing or lead to more. see your doctor and talk about what he can do to help you.

I would try medition and warm baths to relax. get somthing to do at night if that is when you have the attacks. You need to have something that you enjoy to do to take your mind of of this event read, do puzzles or go for a walk,

If you don't want meds, try a therapist, they can talk you through it and show you the breathing techniques. Also, make sure you are exercising everyday a little it really helps! Good luck!
