On the expressway this morning, some guy moved into my lane while I was starting to pass him (didn't check the blindspot?). I slammed on the brakes, started to skid into the other lane/swerved/almost skidded into the concrete median. I didn't have control of my car for several seconds. This wouldn't have been a fender bender, this would have been me in the hospital. If he'd gone into my lane a hair longer, I wouldn't be here at work wondering if I can report his driving to the cops anyway. I wrote down his liceense number.

Instead of "longer," I should have written "later." The thing that really bothered me is that, even when I honked my horn, the driver continued to stay in my lane at the same speed. Most people, I think, would have swerved into the old lane. There weren't a lot of cars around, either. I was going to rear-end him with firm brake pressure, so had to really slam the brakes, sending me into a skid. If he'd gone back into the other lane, or sped up, or I hadn't been forced to be in such a dangerous situation, I would have been irritated for a moment and just let it go.

You can report him, but likely nothing will be done about it, as no actual property or physical damage was done.
I do wish that there was some kind of registry where you could report someone, though. Then when they got several reports, they might have to do a driving test again, or go before a review board. I drive a truck, and do 110,000 miles a year. I see people like this every day. They will eventually cause an accident, but as of now, there is nothing that we can do about it. Sorry.

The absolutely free reverse vin check sites generally provide fake information. To get real information, money will have to be paid. The free searches provide fake information so they can get your email address to send spam.
Stay away from shady reverse vin check sites, most likely you won't get any information after you make the payment. Not to mention you won't get a report and you won't get an answer if you try to call for a refund. Stick with a reputable reverse vin check site like http://www.reversevincheck.net that has been around since 1995.

There's nothing the police can do until they cause an accident.
Even then, they will almost certainly lie to the police and get out of it. There are some websites where you can enter the tag number and warn other drivers. Glad you were not hurt.

If the police did not see it, they cannot issue a citation. You can go to the courthouse and swear out a warrant, but most likely, you won't get anywhere with it and you may invite the ire of the offending driver. No telling what he might do, either, if you know what I mean.
For reporting, see http://www.platewire.com

You can report them, but there will be no consequence. You would have to PROVE they did whatever they did. If there is no accident there is no paper trail.
Anyone could harrass anyone unjustly if that were the case.
In the event it is a business vehicle you could have called any phone numbers listed on the back and report them to their company. But that's it.

the cops have to witness the other driver's actions before anything would be done. they wont go on just 1 person calling in on a cell phone either. if u had dash mounted video, u mighta had a proveable case.

They can't really do anything after-the-fact if no accident happened. The cops can't issue a ticket if they did not see the reckless driving happen.

You can report reckless driving.
Or, if you really want the jerk to pay, and the police to pay attention, call on a cell phone and tell them you think he is under the influence.
He might not get a ticket but you will waste much of his time.
