Keep using the dandruff shampoo but go buy some T-gel by Neutragena. My boyfriend uses it and swears by it. I think you put it on your scalp and let it sit in for a bit then shampoo as usual.
Other than that, I would advise you to see your doctor.
*edit* I've heard good things about tea tree products, but please be careful if you have cats, tea tree oil is TOXIC to cats.

All the answers so far are very good advice. However, you might also want to think about drinking more water to hydrate yourself, and weather, hair product usage, diet, all play a factor in dry scalp/dandruff. Sometimes it's from the inside that is causing the flakiness of the scalp. You can call your doctor and ask if none of the shampoos, olive oils, or water or diet (diet meaning what you eat, NOT "I'm on a diet") changes solve your problem. Good luck!

I totally hear you man. I've had the same problem for years.
I've finally found something that works for me. I use Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo. Expensive, but marvelous. It has menthol so it exposes the scalp. AFTER that, I use Head and Shoulders Intensive Treatment (The orange stuff, best you can buy over the counter). Lastly, I use the Tea Tree conditioner to moisturize.
If that still doesn't work, it's time to see a dermatologist and get a prescription. Don't stop until you get it fixed. Unfortunately, people react very negatively to dandruff, especially if you're young, and assume things about you that can hurt you socially and professionally.

First of all, wash hair as seldom as possible. Best would be 2-3 times a week. Then rub in olive oil into the scalp 10 minutes before washing hair. When washing hair, don't use excessive ammounts of shampoo to get rid of oil! Wash normally and even use conditioner afterwards. Your hair will look oily for 2-3 weeks. After 4 weeks, after applying the olive oil, rub half a lemon on your scalp. Avoid the hair as much as possible.
I have to say, I know this method of having helped countless people after 6-8 weeks. Good Luck!

There are medicated shampoo's for serious cases of dandruff. Go to a pharmacy and enquire about them.
Also use vitamin E. My bf use to have and his own cleared up within a week of using it. You can get vitamin E in any pharmacy. I'm referring to the oil based one. It comes in 2forms, capsules that you can burst and use the oil or the oil comes packaged in a bottle. After you shampoo your hair, pour some of the Vitamin E oil in a plate, or cover or something [becuase you only need a little]. Part out your hair and on each path, dab you finger in the oil and rub on your scalp. Do this for you whole hair. ONLY put the oil on your scalp, not your hair. When you done massage your scalp for about 5mins. Style as you want. When I did this for my bf results starting showin withing a couple days.
You have to deal with it quickly becuase your dandruff can form into a fungus that makes layers of your scalp itself start to peel off.
Trust me, the viatmin E works. It;s 2weeks since I 1st did it for him and he has no more.

I have to recommend the Tea Tree shampoo also. My husband swears by it. He had problems for years and my sister-in-law (a hairdresser) brought him some of it. He says it's the only thing that has worked. His hair looks great too. You can buy this stuff at Wal-Mart in the salon, it's a Paul Mitchell product.

Everyone here is right with the T-gel. Any coal tar shampoo like T-gel works pretty good. I have psoriasis and it gets itchy and really flaky in the winter. I use it every morning in the shower and it keeps it in control. I rub it in when I first get in then rinse it out when I wash my hair. Try it, it's not expensive and does a great job.
