You need to provide much more information in order to design a circuit. The main data that is missing is the current levels: what the 2-volt source can supply, how much the 4 - 5 volt output must provide. A simple circuit with an NPN transistor has collector resistor Rc and emitter resistor Re. The gain of the circuit is Rc/Re. You must select the values of Rc and Re such that the input impedance is high enough and output impedance low enough to meet the current requirements of source and load. It may not be possible with a singe transistor circuit. The gain Rc/Re musl be less than 1/10 of transistor beta. The input impedance is about equal to beta times Re; the output impedance is about equal to Rc. You will need a power supply of more than 5v to supply Vcc (collector supply voltage).

Yes it is possible. My university stuff is all packed up though. Up converters was one of my design projects. From memory you need to build a circuit to output 4.5 volts no matter what the input voltage is.

2vdc to 4.5vdc ? might be cheaper and easier to find a 4.5vdc power supply than go through the hassle of upconverting the voltage

Search google on voltage doubler circuits.

you will find one.

As I remember with few diodes and caps you can do it.
