I am definately a music guy. Nothing like the iPod in a coffee shop. If the TV is on I have to watch, but most of the songs I have on my iPod I already know and don't have to pay too much attention to to enjoy.

I work better with music on, it keeps me moving. As for TV, I just get distracted and not do my work. (I don't watch TV any more while I am doing something I need to get done) For me TV is about the only the thing I can't "multi-task" on because it takes my full attention.

I would bet on music...there is less distracting stimulation. I have a hard time just listening to the tv, I feel a need to watch it and that of course decreases productivity. Music can only be listened to and thus is overall less distracting.

Television is a distraction whereas listening to quiet music in the background can help you better with your train of thought.

Well, for most people I'd think it would be music. The only part of you that has to concentrate then is your ears, and not even that much. But with a TV show,it might catch your attention and you have to listen and watch to really understand what's going on.

Yes and No.
It depends on the person. Some become too involved in the non-work stuff, some like me use it as white noise.

TV no! Too distracting. While I prefer perfect silence. I can see that soft, mellow music could work.

depends on the distraction level.
soft, background music would be best.
loud, stimulating or irritating music would not be good.
quiet, uninteresting tv would be less distracting than
loud, exciting shows with lots of movement.

I personally think that is true. I happen to believe that a happy worker makes a more productive worker.
